Shepherds keeping watch by night,
Saw around a glorious light,
Heard an angel’s voice proclaim,
“Christ is born in Bethlehem”.
Soon by many a heavenly tongue,
“Glory be to God,” was sung;
“Peace on earth, good will to men,
Christ is born in Bethlehem.”
O how great the Saviour’s love,
Thus to leave His throne above!
All to suffer guilt and shame,
He was “born in Bethlehem.”
Christians can with joy give praise
For this condescending grace,
This doth set their hearts in flame,
“Christ is born in Bethlehem.”
