1
’Tis vain to say we love the Lord,
Unless we also love His Word;
And search the holy Scriptures, too,
To find what God would have us do.

2
While we delight and live in sin,
How dwells the love of God within?
That child is serving Satan still,
Who hates the Saviour’s holy will.

3
The sins that crucified their Lord,
By God’s dear children are abhorred,
Too well they love His blessed Name
To put it to an open shame.

4
Let little children, then, who dare
To lie, or steal, or curse, or swear,
Remember that their actions prove:
The Lord they do not fear nor love.
